What does 7shifts payroll cost, and what does Kronto include?

7shifts payroll costs $39.99 per location per month plus $6 per employee paid, with no base fee on Premium, and it works in the US only. Kronto runs payroll inside its $5 per user, with approved hours and tip shares already in it, or exports them to the payroll provider you use now.

7shifts lists its payroll as an add-on on its pricing page, with a limited-time offer of 3 months free[2]. Its help center says 7shifts Payroll covers all 50 states and Washington, D.C., with some exceptions, and that it doesn't file Form 8027 for tip reporting[6].

In Kronto, payroll uses the same approved time cards and tip pool shares your managers already checked, so nothing is retyped. A missing pay rate is caught before payroll runs. See restaurant payroll in Kronto.

How does 7shifts pricing compare with Kronto's?

7shifts prices each location: Comp is free for up to 15 employees, and Essentials, Pro and Premium cost $44.99, $89.99 and $149.99 a month, or $39.99, $79.99 and $134.99 billed annually. Kronto is $5 per user with tips, tasks, the log book and payroll included. On 7shifts, those come with Premium or as add-ons.

For one location that wants scheduling, tip pooling, task lists and a manager log book, on monthly list prices[2]:

  • Essentials with add-ons: $44.99 + $49.99 tips + $12.99 tasks + $14.99 log book = $122.96, for up to 30 employees. Kronto costs less up to 24 staff.
  • Premium: $149.99 with all of them included. Kronto costs less up to 29 staff; from 30, Premium costs less, or from 27 on annual billing.

Add payroll and the gap grows for smaller teams: on 7shifts it adds $6 per employee paid on every plan, plus $39.99 below Premium. Kronto doesn't add anything.

When is 7shifts the better choice?

7shifts is the better choice for a larger store, where Premium's flat price per location costs less than $5 per user past about 30 staff. It also fits a single location of up to 15 that only needs basic scheduling, since Comp is free, and restaurants on a POS that Kronto doesn't connect to.

7shifts lists 61 integrations, including Lightspeed and dozens of other POS systems[4]. Kronto connects to Square, Toast and Clover. 7shifts also offers its app in French[5], and a 14-day trial of Pro without a credit card[2]. Kronto has no free-forever plan, but setup is free and you can create your account with no credit card, or book a demo first.

How do the two handle tip pooling and tip-outs?

Both split tips several ways. 7shifts Tip Management splits by hours worked, by set percentages or by weighted points, and costs $49.99 per location unless you're on Premium. Kronto splits by hours, equally or by points, sends tip-outs to support roles, and is included in the price, with every share going to payroll.

7shifts also offers instant tip payouts to a debit card for a $1 fee per transaction[3]. Kronto pays tips through payroll, beside each person's hours, and doesn't offer instant payouts.

In Kronto, card tips come in from Square and Toast, cash is declared in the app or on the store tablet, and each pool closes by day, week, two weeks, pay period or day part.

Which has checklists and a manager log book built in?

Kronto has both in its one price. On 7shifts, Task Management is a $12.99 per location add-on unless you're on Premium, and the Manager Log Book comes with Pro and Premium or costs $14.99 per location. Kronto's checklists run on the store tablet, and its log book fills in the day's numbers.

7shifts lists Task Management and the Manager Log Book, its "digital red book", on its pricing page[2].

Kronto's checklists carry due times, even after midnight, photo tasks a manager approves, and an alert to the team member and managers when a task runs late. The restaurant manager log book reads sales, labor, hours and checklist progress, so managers write only what happened.

Which POS systems does each connect to?

7shifts connects to far more systems: its directory lists 61 integrations, including Square, Toast, Clover and Lightspeed. Kronto connects to Square, Toast and Clover, reading sales, locations and team members, and forecasts each store's sales by half hour from that store's own history, 8 weeks ahead.

Kronto reads from your POS and never writes back to it. If your POS isn't Square, Toast or Clover, 7shifts is likely the better fit[4].

  2. Connect your POS

Kronto imports your locations and team members from Square, Toast or Clover, and reads sales for your forecast.

  3. Build your first week

  4. Pay your team

Approved hours and tip shares go to payroll in Kronto, or export to the payroll provider you use now.
